U.S Women Top Peru to Open 2007 FIVB World Cup |

| The U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team, using balanced scoring and a starting lineup of all 2004 Olympians, swept Peru 25-23, 25-14, 25-19 Friday afternoon in the FIVB World Cup opening match for both teams at Hamamatsu, Japan. The U.S. is ranked eighth in the latest FIVB world ranking, while Peru is listed 18th. MORE

USA Volleyball has released the wave schedules for the 2008 girls' and boys' Junior Olympic tournaments. The girls' tournament will be June 26-July 5 in Dallas, Texas. The boys' tournament will be July 2-9 in Sandy, Utah. MORE

It is with great sadness that USA Volleyball announces the passing of national referee Ben Jordan on Oct. 31. The service to celebrate Jordan's life will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at Trinity Church, 1015 Holman, Houston, TX 77004. More information will be posted to the Lone Star Region web site. USA Volleyball Chief Executive Officer Doug Beal announced the hiring of Monica Paul as the organization's associate director of events. She previously served as the U.S. Women's National Team technical coordinator from 1997 to 2001, including the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. Click here for more... For the second year in a row, USA Volleyball has challenged other National Governing Bodies (NGBs) and National Sport Organizations to a "Stuff Your CEO/ED/President's Office" food and clothing drive as the holiday season approaches. The food and clothing drive challenge started Nov. 1 and runs through Nov. 16. USAV has selected the Harvest of Love Food Drive to receive the food collected and is considering several organizations in the Colorado Springs area to receive the clothing collected. Along with USA Volleyball, other organizations that participated last year include the USOC, U.S. Paralympics, USA Baseball and USA Triathlon. USA Volleyball contributed 596 pounds of food last year and has set a goal of at least 1000 pounds for 2007. Penn State has ended Nebraska's 26-week run as top-ranked team in the CSTV/AVCA Coaches Poll for Division I women. Click here for more.
